Gartner names Dryad a Cool Vendor in IoT Thingification

Wow! Dryad was just included in Gartners' Cool Vendor 2021 list for IoT Thingification! Incredibly proud and humbled at the same time we made it in less than 18 months after starting the company.

Gartner's Cool Vendor list is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner on Thingification: "Thingification is a universal process, but service providers have, understandably, been focused on the more profitable urban regions of the globe. As the long tail starts to bulk up and the cost of technology declines, some companies are pushing “thingification” to the ends of the earth."

Gartner Analyst Bill Ray on why Dryad is Cool: "Dryad Networks plans to provide network infrastructure to the parts of the world without people. Using a Lora-based mesh, and solar power, the company has developed a technology which can cover forests, plains, and tundra with a wide-area network for environmental sensor data and change detection. [...] The killer application, identified by Dryad, is wildfire detection. Wildfires often burn for days, or weeks, before being noticed in a large forest. By the time firefighters get notified it is often too late to extinguish the fire, so control methods are used to minimize the impact while the fire burns itself out. Dryad has developed a solar-powered gas sensor which can analyze the local air every five minutes, detecting any instance of fire, enabling firefighters to be on the scene much sooner."
